The Concert house choir
From Halleluja to Swedish Folksongs
The Helsingborg Concert House Choir is a mixed choir consisting of approximately 60 skilled singers. Their repertoire ranges from baroque to newly composed works and covers advanced choral music, as well as renowned popular music.
The Choir usually performs with the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra but is also engaged outside Helsingborg, for example at the Malmö Opera, in the productions of Aida and Othello, and frequently by the Malmö Symphonic Orchestra. They have also performed at larger events. These include the opening night of the Malmö Arena and Helsingborg Arena. The King and Queen of Sweden have attended several of the Choir’s concerts.
Over the years a larger audience has come to recognize the quality of the choir. A milestone was when the choir sang in the St Peters Cathedral in the Vatican and had the honor to meet the Pope, Johannes Paulus II. The choir has also sung, twice on invitation, with the world-renowned singer Andrea Bocelli, both in Sweden and in Denmark, and has performed a concert version of the musical Kristina, by Benny Andersson from ABBA.
The choir’s repertoire also includes highly appreciated church concerts, performed, in the royal church Vor Frelsers Kirke (our Saviours Church) in Copenhagen, Helsingör Cathedral, and in the Parish Church in Dublin. The sacral repertoire includes the major works, like Mozart’s Requiem and Händel’s Messias but also delicate a Capella pieces by composers like Johannes Brahms, Knut Nystedt and Sergei Rachmaninov.
